FAQ
What art files are acceptable?
We accept Vector art created in Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw and saved as CDR, EPS or AI. Artwork formats that are not acceptable include Word documents, Excel files, Microsoft PhotoDraw, PowerPoint or Publisher, Adobe FreeHand, PageMaker, Acrobat or Image Ready, and paper napkins. Bitmap or TIFF images and JPEG files may be appropriate for some printing applications, such as Picture Perfect.
What is vector art?
Vector art is created in Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw and saved as CDR, EPS or AI. This outline drawing enables our graphics department to resize artwork without distortion or loss of detail, for imprinting purposes.
Why convert fonts to outlines/curves?
All computers have different types of fonts installed in their own computer system. If fonts are not converted to curves or outlines, the computer without the required font automatically finds the closest font and substitutes, resulting in artwork changes.
What artwork format is required for the Picture Perfect Process?
Vector art is fine for spot color, or you can provide a bitmap or halftone. To prepare bitmap artwork, please scan 200% to 300% of the intended size (at 300 dpi the best size for scanned artwork is from 600 to 1200 pixels across). For a multi-colored logo, please do not use any artwork trapping in color separations.
What are PMS colors?
PMS colors are exact representations of shades of color, when printed on a white background. When you quote a PMS (Pantone) color, we know exactly what shade you are looking for and will match that color, or let you know why we can’t. Colors appearing on computer screens differ and cannot be identified accurately, so are not reliable for production purposes. PMS colors work best.
Why do I have to fax Bonica a hard copy?
Always provide a print out or faxed copy of the artwork to help us notice any distortion or modifications to the artwork, which may occur during electronic transmission.
What is the cost to reproduce the artwork?
Any artwork not meeting the required standards will need to be re-drawn in vector image. Re-creation will be subject to a charge of $50.00 (v) per half hour, subject to client approval.
Will I see an artwork proof or mock-up?
A paper mock-up will be faxed or emailed to you within 48 hours of Bonica receiving the purchase order. The qucker you return it to us, the quicker we can complete and ship your order.
Do I have to fax back the Mockup Approval?
All artwork mockups must be signed and faxed or emailed back to Bonica before production commences.
How long does Bonica keep artwork on file?
Generally speaking, artwork can be kept indefinitely because it takes so little storage space. But some files may be purged after three years of inactivity.
What is an Idea Generator?
An Idea Generator is an electronic, full-color sample, where you choose your product and imprint colors and leave the rest to the Bonica Graphics Department. Artwork should be supplied in vector format, saved in CDR, EPS or AI with all fonts converted to outline/curves. We will design a mock-up, suitable for viewing by the end-user.
