Doi Chaang wins Outstanding Community Development Award

On February 28th, 2012 Doi Chaang Coffee was presented with the CAFP (Canadian Association of Foodservice Professionals) leadership award for “Outstanding Community Development”.  This award is given to businesses who demonstrate outstanding contributions in community service, education, healthcare, association or industry development.  The Doi Chaang Coffee Company was honoured to accept this award that recognized the continuous efforts done to improve the standard of living for the Akha hill tribe in Doi Chang Village.
7 members of the Doi Chaang team got dressed up and went to the Hilton Hotel in Metro Town to attend the awards dinner and support the company in receiving the award.  We were able to enjoy some good company, good food and celebrate our accomplishments together.

In the past five years Doi Chaang Coffee has become a symbol of the highest quality in the coffee arena. Ranked in the top 1%, by world renowned coffee reviewer Kenneth Davids, Doi Chaang Coffee premium beans are some of the best ever to be reviewed.

What has distinctly set us apart from every other coffee company, and gained us considerable respect from coffee lovers and peers alike, is our commitment to the growers. In an innovative relationship with the farmers, unparalleled by other coffee companies, we gifted 50% of Doi Chaang Coffee to the growers of Doi Chang community in Northern Thailand in addition to paying above Fair Trade prices for their beans. This innovative structure, termed Beyond Fair Trade, is raising the Doi Chang community out of poverty which only 10 years ago seemed impossible (Click here to learn more).

Thanks to all our supporters, Doi Chaang Coffee is now available in over 400 retail stores across Canada, an ever-increasing number of specialty shops in the USA, and sold at Harrods in the UK. Starting as a small passion project, my mission to raise an isolated community out of the depths of poverty has taken Doi Chaang Coffee to all corners of the globe. Needless to say, this is only the beginning.
